In proportion

In a strange and unpredictable reaction to a recent viewing of the Robert Mapplethorpe exhibition in Sydney’s Art Gallery NSW, after 25 years since first seeing the same pictures on the walls of the National Gallery of Victoria, the subject matter almost evaporated into bland form like a sunset turns landscape into a silhouette.

All that exploration of ego and sexual proclivities, the celebrities and selfies, the historical references and symbolic objects really means so little now. It leaves a sense of witnessing a monument of classical proportion, hollow and worm ridden on the inside.
