CHANGE

From the series, Look to Sea

A wise man from Greece once said, “ …you never step in the same river twice” or something to that effect, inferring– perhaps something we don’t want to be reminded of– that we, and the things around us, constantly shift, from one instant to the next.

The images above were taken during a photography workshop called Beyond the Boat, which we devised for the Salvation Army. Over the course of 2 months, we introduced eight asylum seekers from Iran to the joys of photography. We took them to some of Sydney’s iconic landmarks and locations such as Bondi beach.

Noticeably, their images never made reference to the seismic change they had endured in their lives. Instead, they were drawn to the wonder of less spectacular moments in life, like those we hardly observe.
